The center of the fragile, worn-out woman theater shown by Ireland is so charming that it is easy for her to be carried and missed important questions: Why is Andrew charged? Michael committed murder. He will not disrespect. He thinks his parole session has changed and that the family lawyer is trying to convince Laura that Andrew will be more successful if he proves to support it.
But Andrew, while his mother missed him, was effectively dragged into exile. It is by no means clear why this moment has chosen to return, and this is only one of the uncertainties that allow it to develop beyond the central attitude of the film.
